Notes on Pacific Reader Interview |
| There were are a few minor errors, mostly on my part.
The "strip malls" comment refers to West L.A., specifically Sawtelle Blvd. the first block north of Olympic, where the original George's Hardware, Fred's 76 Service, Sawtelle Garage and S&M Nursery was located, not Centinela Ave. where Kenny's Cafe was. ....And it is just "S&M Nursery", not the S&M Nursery, which makes it sound kinda kinky. Rohwer, Arkansas - not Roehr The Gulf War brought on "murmurs of rounding up Iraqis", not Iranians, although the title of Great Satan was bouncing around a lot those days. Re the castration metaphor: it's for Asian American males in the media. This interview was conducted by phone the week before I left for Seattle, so it unfortunately didn't come out until after the Elliot Bay reading. As soon as I hung up, I thought maybe I shouldn't have been screwing around so much. But my wife said this interview really captured my personality. |
